Start with the property, not a generic quote
Before comparing replacements, confirm the parcel’s wastewater status and records. The Town of Riverhead operates sewer infrastructure in defined districts, while many properties use private cesspools or septic systems.
A county grant generally requires the home to use an onsite system and not be connected to sewers or within a proposed sewer area. Use the official county eligibility map and verify district questions with the town.

Lot access, groundwater, wetlands proximity, agricultural context and the location of existing structures can change design and permitting. A local building or wetlands permit may apply in addition to Suffolk County health approval.

Compare complete proposals
Ask each approved installer to separate treatment equipment, excavation, electrical work, abandonment, permits, engineering, restoration and maintenance. That makes grant-eligible and owner-paid items easier to understand.
